Leuco-reduced packed cells

For RBC, the leucocyte is reduced to less than 5 x 106 per unit by using specialised filter.Leucocyte reduced bloods   are indicated:
  1. to prevent febrile non-hemolytic transfusion reactions in patients who have experienced two or more such reactions
  2. to minimise the risk of transfusion related CMV transmission
  3. to minimise HLA alloimmunization
